PATRIOTS WEEK 1 -- UNANTICIPATED CIVIL WAR REFERENCES, AND OTHER THOUGHTS

(by Burke)

Here’s what I think about week 1:

Breaking Tom Brady’s nose was the most egregious act of Southern aggression since Fort Sumter.

Chandler Jones and I have one thing in common. We both hate the opposing QB’s. Between the two of us I think the Patriots have finally found the pass rusher they’ve needed for years.

One of the best things about week one of the NFL is watching commercials for the fantastically awful new TV shows. After watching a dozen commercials for Revolution I’m really looking forward to the world’s electricity actually going out. At least then there is zero chance I’d ever have to watch an episode of Revolution.

Wes Welker wants a long term contract. We all like Wes Welker. But after watching Lloyd, Hernandez and Gronkowski in action yesterday Welker has about as much bargaining power as Bobby Valentine.

What divorce will happen first, Michael Vick and Eagles fans or Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively?
After the QB drafting frenzy of the last few years I’ve been trying to figure out where Matt Barkley ends up. I’d like to thank Brandon Weedon for clearing that confusion up for me.

The bad news for Bills fans is Ryan Fitzpatrick has a long term contract. The good news? Massive lake effect blizzards should be starting in about a month.
